Let’s all make sure that we have Mrs. Mickelson, Phil and their children in our thoughts and prayers. As many of us that have seen women go through the trials and tribulations related to this disease know, she will need all the well wishes that she can get.

Phil is doing the right thing. I knew he was one of the good guys. We’re behind you Mickelson family.

This past Saturday at Softball World in Euless, TX was the annual Major NIT tournament. For those of you that don’t know what this is, it is the one time during the year that teams from the Major, A and B levels come to town to play. It’s also a great opportunity for the local C teams to enter to try their luck at these “upper” teams.

We got a local team the first game and without going into a lot of detail, it wasn’t a great game for us. Our bats failed us. That put us into the tougher end of the bracket, where a loss sends you home. Our second game was against a conference B team, All Star Plumbing from Lawton, OK. It was a battle all game back and forth, but we stayed with them and even took a couple of leads throughout the game. What might have been one of the oddest parts of this game is that we had 16 people in our dugout and we used every single one of those players to get ourselves a 32-31 win over ASP.

The second game of the day was just as big a challenge. We were faced with another tough challenge in the Searcy, Arkansas based Gametime Supply/Bonecrushers/Worth. We were the visitors in this game so it was important that we get ourselves a lead early and we did just that. We protected that lead all game and eventually beat this good B team 26-20.

The third, and final game of the tournament was against AJS/Easton/3N2/DSSBats out of Fort Myers, Florida, which is another conference B team. We stuck with them for 5 innings, when in the 6th inning they put up 15 runs to beat us and send us on our way.

All in all it was a great weekend for the boys of savesecond.com. We never quit and proved to ourselves that we have a great group of guys that play hard together and can win against some of the best teams in higher classes. We get another shot at proving we are one of the best teams around this coming weekend in Rowlett, TX. The team feels great about our chances there.
