Fighting Cancer, One Game at a Time!
Save Second Base played our first tournament of the 2008 campaign under our new name on Saturday March 1st. The tournament was a C/D combined at Softball World in Euless, TX. Our final record on the day was 3-2 which placed us fourth among eleven teams entered. Several players from our regular roster were unable to play in the tournament and we would like to thank the players who helped us out by replacing them. Those players were Marsha Reed, Sarah Reyes, Minidi Ramon, and Johnny Reyes. Our first game got off to a poor start as MFC scored six runs in the top of the first; however, we struck back with seven in the bottom of the first frame and never trailed again, winning by a score of 18-10. Our next game ended before it ever began as our next scheduled opponent, Conference Cafe, no-showed the tournament. The official result was a 7-0 victory for Save Second Base. Game three saw us dealt our first loss of the day, 18-8 to Bulldog Roofing. Bulldog has a very strong squad and should be a top team in Mixed C all year. We were never really in this game as we fell behind early and never posed a serious threat on our way to being run-ruled. The result was a trip to the loser’s bracket. We bounced back nicely after a long break in a rematch with game one opponent MFC. Several hits and some well-timed walks led to a sixteen run outburst in the bottom of the first inning and Save Second Base cruised to an easy 18-6 win. The victory placed us in the semi-final of the loser’s bracket and a matchup with Team Krush, a D team. The offense that put up eighteen runs in the previous game vanished and the game and our tournament ended in a very frustrating 13-7 loss. Offensive stars for SSB were OF Levi Lynch (11-13 .846) and SS Jimmy Martinez (10-13 .769). The top female hitter was Ami Gresham (8-13 .615). An inconsistent overall performance left our team eager for the next opportunity to prove ourselves. That opportunity will come Saturday March 22nd in McKinney. We look forward to a much better finish.

The Blog will simply be a tool in our mission to make a difference doing something that we all love. You'll catch all sorts of news and information on the blog. Generally speaking, you'll hear all about the great things we are doing on and off the field of play this year. If you want to shoot us a donation. The link is available just to the right. The goal is to raise several thousand dollars by the time the 3 Day Walk comes to Dallas on November 7. Thanks in advance for your help and dedication to this cause.
